Upon meeting back up with the others they met an envoy of Ignis Iocaste who told them to meet at the western gate in the morning to depart and told them of accommodation that had been arranged for them in the Iocastian quarter. Theon Murkod (Andrew) decides he wants nothing to do with the accommodation and stays in an inn nearby. Eldrich (Jason) is treated with the utmost respect due to his spellcasting ability which is highly valued by the Iocastians while Brayten Stytler (Ian) and Milo Tealeaf (Phil) are treated as lower class individuals who are only tolerated since they are viewed as servants. During the night an assassin murders Eldrich (Jason) while he is sleeping and attempts to kill Theon Murkod (Andrew) who is still awake. In order to escape Theon Murkod (Andrew) jumps from the window of his room. However the fall proves too much for him and knocks him out. The assassin jumps after him to ensure that the job is finished and finishes Theon Murkod (Andrew) off as well. In the morning two members from the Reendeavour Institute (referred to as the Second Chance Institute). While Theon Murkod (Andrew) and Eldrich (Jason) were not covered under any plan the spyglass they found on the pirate ship was deemed suitable payment for the purposes of reviving the murdered party members.
Everyone then gathered at the west gate to leave the city. As they passed through the gate the left hand of every person present briefly flashed and the party all had the emblem of the Iocaste faction marked on their hand. It was explained that the mark was to protect Iocastians from traps meant for the other factions. They are told that their first job is to clear an outpost in the swamp called Fiz Yachi which has been overrun by kobolds and then they are to use there to defend the swamp from attack by the other factions. The group stops just outside of Fiz Gorgo, a crossroads city with roads leading into the swamp and mountains. After training against clones of themselves in a 1v1 and 4v4 battle they are left to prepare for their journey into the swamp.
Once all necessary goods have been purchased the party turns in for the night and departs in the morning with Eldrich (Jason) being cheered by the crowd. It takes one and a half days to reach Fiz Yachi so the party stops on a hill with several standing stones near its apex. The hill is the only identifiable landmark in the swamp and rises above the tree line. Everyone who slept within the stones woke feeling a great unease except for Theon Murkod (Andrew) who felt invigorated. The same feelings occurred as a result of touching the stones. They continued in the morning and arrived at Fiz Yachi by noon.
Upon arriving at the fort they see that it is surrounded by a moat and has stone walls just over two stories tall with a single path leading to the entrance. They observe two kobolds patrolling lazily along the wall and Milo Tealeaf (Phil) manages to scout out the gate house without incident. The rest of the party manage to climb up and ambush the two on patrol as well as two inside the gatehouse. They secure the towers by moving along the wall before proceeding into the courtyard. From the gatehouse they could see a stable on their right and another building on their left. Theon Murkod (Andrew) and Brayten Stytler (Ian) scout out the stable while Milo Tealeaf (Phil) attempts to scout out the building on the left but being unable to see inside due to the darkness calls Eldrich (Jason) over to take a look.
Within the stable two kobolds are spotted which Brayten Stytler (Ian) and Theon Murkod (Andrew) engage from a distance then seek cover behind the stable wall. While hiding they are set upon by two giant wolf spiders. They manage to defeat the two kobolds before Brayten Stytler (Ian) falls to the spiders. At the same time Eldrich (Jason), disregarding the risks, loudly moves into the other building. It is found to be a barracks and six kobolds soon appear to see what caused the noise. Thinking quickly Eldrich (Jason) casts disguise self to appear to be a kobold and tells them that they are under attack and to attack the one in the dress pointing over toward the stable. Being half asleep they all fail to notice anything amiss and run out of the barracks and toward Theon Murkod (Andrew), the only one who appeared to be wearing a dress. With Brayten Stytler (Ian) no longer able to fight, two spiders in front and six kobolds approaching from behind, Theon Murkod (Andrew) sprints into the gatehouse and locks himself in an area where the spiders will be unable to reach him. The kobolds mill around the base of the gatehouse trying to get in while the spiders climb up the walls and into the windows of the tower to try and find Theon Murkod (Andrew). Meanwhile Eldrich (Jason) is able to save Brayten Stytler (Ian) from death before returning to the barracks less he be mistaken for a kobold and attacked by Brayten Stytler (Ian). Milo Tealeaf (Phil) picks the kobolds off from within the barracks before they notice the new threat and go after him. The spiders tire of trying to find Theon Murkod (Andrew) and head toward the barracks. By the time the kobolds reach the barracks only two remain and they attempt to get into the room where Milo Tealeaf (Phil) is hiding. Eldrich (Jason), who is in the barracks, tries to convince the kobolds that they need to ride the spiders however only one complies with the other still trying to get in the door. Eldrich (Jason) helps the kobold get the door open and Milo Tealeaf (Phil) finishes the kobold off. Outside the remaining kobold manages to mount a spider however before anything else can happen the spider is killed. Brayten Stytler (Ian) finishes off the last kobold as it heads for the remaining spider and Milo Tealeaf (Phil), who had left the barracks, dealt with the remaining spider.
